Protraxx Delivers Custom Off-Road Track for Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon Debut at the 2025 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix

Melbourne, Australia — March 2025
Protraxx, Australia’s leading specialist in bespoke track construction and event-based earthworks, proudly delivered the custom off-road course used for the global debut of the Mercedes-Benz G 580 at the 2025 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Commissioned to design and build a unique all-terrain track experience inside the Grand Prix precinct, Protraxx constructed what became known publicly as the “G-Track” — an immersive off-road demonstration zone showcasing the legendary capabilities of the G-Wagon platform, including the first-ever electric G-Class.
The activation gained national media attention, highlighted in news.com.au’s coverage of the new G 580 debuting “at an off-road park at the Formula One Grand Prix,” where the vehicle was put through a purpose-built course designed to demonstrate its climbing, articulation and multi-surface performance.
A Purpose-Built Terrain Experience
Working under tight construction windows and within the strict logistical constraints of Albert Park, Protraxx delivered a complete terrain installation including:
-
Multi-surface off-road track features
-
Engineered inclines and decline ramps
-
Articulation obstacles and uneven terrain sections
-
Decorative and structural rock placement
-
Custom soil profiling and shaping
-
Controlled compaction for safe vehicle testing
-
Floor and ground protection systems to preserve underlying event surfaces
-
Full bump-in and bump-out, machinery supply and transport
The build required precision earthworks, creative problem solving, and coordination with multiple event stakeholders to ensure the track met both Mercedes-Benz’s brand requirements and the operational standards of the Formula 1 venue.
Showcasing Capability at a Global Event
The custom G-Track allowed invited media, influencers and VIP guests to experience the new G 580 in an authentic off-road environment — directly within one of Australia’s most prestigious motorsport events.
The installation served as a hero piece for Mercedes-Benz’s presence at the Grand Prix, complementing their hospitality lounges, AMG experiences, and on-track involvement. Thousands of spectators witnessed the G-Wagon demonstration throughout race week, reinforcing the model’s off-road heritage and engineering innovation.
Delivered by Australia’s Track Specialists
Protraxx Managing Director Josh Proctor said the project highlighted the company’s unique capability in event-specific earthworks:
“Building an off-road experience inside an F1 precinct is no small task.
The challenge was to create a track that looked natural, performed safely, and showcased the G-Wagon’s abilities — all within a very tight time frame.
We’re incredibly proud of the result and the trust Mercedes-Benz placed in our team.”
This project adds to Protraxx’s growing portfolio of high-profile event builds, including national motocross, supercross and lifestyle brand activations across Australia.
